Visitors from England and the south will notice the official Galloway
Tourist Route signs from Gretna and may think the route takes in Galloway on its way to Ayr.
Unfortunately, the route skims the eastern corner of Galloway and directs visitors north
into Ayrshire instead. Despite representations to the National Signpost Group made up of representatives of Visit Scotland,
Transport Scotland and the Scottish Government, there is no indication that they will be changing the official route any time
soon and unfortunately, the Chamber of Commerce doesn't have the resources to put up alternative signs to mark the 70
mile or so route that we are suggesting on this website.
So, if you want to see all that Galloway has to offer, plan your route before you set out using the maps on this
site. From Ayrshire and the Glasgow area, it is recommended that you take the spectacular A77 coast road
to Stranraer and start the Real Galloway Tourist Route there. Start at The Rhins page.
If you are arriving from England,
the Real Galloway Tourist Route parts company from the official route at Castle Douglas. Start at The Stewartry page and work your way through The Machars across to the Rhins using our mapped out route to be sure of seeing all that Galloway has to offer.
On these pages, you will find all the information you need to plan the perfect holiday in Galloway and
our accommodation providers' page gives details of places to stay including self-catering accommodation, B&Bs, hotels and campsites.
We look forward to welcoming you to Galloway soon.
